Treatment Options Available in the Galveston/Houston Region

University of Texas Health Sciences Center - Houston Center on Excellence on Mood Disorders

The Center for Excellence on Mood Disorders comprehensive specialty clinic aims to search for the neurobiological mechanisms causing mood disorders and the development of new treatments for these mental illnesses. The center seeks to provide the latest evidence-based care to adults, adolescents, and children suffering with mood disorders and also for patients suffering with co-morbid illnesses requiring complex psycho-pharmacologic and psycho-therapeutic interventions. Services offered include:

  • Patient Assessment and Care:Psychiatrists specializing in mood disorders provide consultations, evaluations and treatment of individuals with mood disorders.
  • Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Mood Disorders:The intermediate level program is designed for those adults whose mood disorder symptoms have not improved with standard outpatient care. The IOP provides group skills training, individual psychotherapy, and medication evaluation and management. Thr program provides three hours of group therapy, three days per week, in addition to weekly individual therapy and medication management. Family therapy is provided on an as-needed basis.

Gulf Coast Center: Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Recovery Services Center (GCC)

The Gulf Coast Center is one of thirty-nine community MHMR centers in the state of Texas providing services, programs and employment assistance for individuals with mental retardation and mental illness, HIV outreach and substance abuse recovery services under the Texas Commission for Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCADA). Programs and services offered by the Gulf Coast Center have made progress toward enabling and empowering individuals and their families to live quality lives.

ADA, the Alcohol/Drug Abuse Women's Center, provides Texas Department of State Health Services licensed intensive and transitional treatment for indigent women in Galveston and Brazoria Counties in coastal Texas.

BACODA remains firm in its belief that chemically dependent individuals and their families can and do recover. BACODA offers a wide range of services toaid in the recovery process.
