Physical Activity and Functional Recovery Translational Research Laboratory

The Physical Activity and Functional Recovery Lab contains Hoist and Precor exercise equipment used for clinical research in physical activity, exercise and fitness training, and recovery and rehabilitation for muscle health. Physical Performance Testing and Training Core Laboratory

The Physical Performance Testing and Training Core Lab provides opportunities for clinical researchers to assess and measure physical activity, recovery and rehabilitation for individuals with various impairments due to disease or injury. The core lab is utilized by faculty interested in understanding and measuring movement performance in order to better structure rehabilitation paradigms and assist with recovery efforts. Muscle Biology Laboratory

The Muscle Biology lab is on the 10th floor of the medical research building and is a component of the 5,000 sq. ft. of wet lab space for researchers from the Department of Nutrition & Metabolism and the Sealy Center on Aging. The inter-connecting labs allow for scientific collaboration among other researchers interested in muscle biology, metabolism and aging.  Read more...

Skeletal Muscle Physiology and Imaging Laboratory

Dr. Fry is an Assistant Professor in the UTMB School of Health Professions Department of Nutrition and Metabolism and a fellow in the Sealy Center on Aging.  Dr. Fry completed a B.S. (with honors) in Biology at Baylor University, Ph.D. in biomedical sciences at UTMB and postdoctoral training in skeletal muscle physiology and satellite cell biology at the University of Kentucky.  Read more...

Biorepository and Mass Spectrometry Laboratories

The Volpi Lab comprises the Biorepository and the Mass Spectrometry laboratories. They include 2,300 sq. ft. of space on the 10th floor of the Medical Research Building, and 200 sq. ft. of space on the 4th floor of the John Sealy Annex. They are a component of the 5,000 sq. ft. of wet lab space of the Sealy Center on Aging and Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center. Read more...

The Children's Wellness and Exercise Center

The Children’s Wellness and Exercise Center (CWEC) is on the 4th floor of Shriners Hospital for Children-Galveston and it is 980 sq. ft., with state-of-the-art exercise equipment for pediatric patients 7 years old and older. There are arm ergometers, treadmills, rowers, elliptical machines and exercise cycles used for cardiopulmonary training/rehabilitation.
