March 2019: New cancer research funding for HPV vaccine

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas announced that two researchers at the medical branch were among those receiving research funds from the latest $96 million earmarked for cancer research.

Dr. Abby Berenson received approximately $1.5 million to compare the immune response of the two dose HPV vaccine compared to the three dose vaccine for males and females 15 to 25 years of age. Berenson also received an almost $2.5 million grant to expand a HPV vaccination program that collaborates with schools and clinics in underserved areas.

Dr. Ana Rodriguez received a nearly $2 million grant to expand a school-based HPV vaccination program in the Rio Grande Valley.
