Open Payments/Sunshine Act

The Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Open Payments), a part of the Affordable Care Act, requires domestic drug and device manufacturers to report any payments made to physicians or academic medical centers to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), with certain exceptions.

During the months of April and May, 2016, physicians and teaching hospitals can voluntarily review the data reported to CMS for the 2015 calendar year. However, at this time, CMS has not yet announced a specific deadline in May, and therefore, should you chose to do so, it is important to review your data sooner rather than later. The data will be made publically available on June 30, 2016.

In order to review this data before it is published, phsyicians must register with CMS in their Enterprise Portal. A walkthrough of the physician registration process is available below.
