COVID-19 Vaccination Updates

Update on Galveston County Vaccination Hubs

COVID Vaccine at Walter Hall Park

UTMB Health and the Galveston County Health District (GCHD) have been designated as vaccination hubs by the state of Texas. We are very pleased to be working with the GCHD, the Galveston County and other partners to bring mass vaccination capability to our area.

Our first event was held on Jan. 23 at Walter Hall Park in League City. More than 700 people were vaccinated in what was generally a smooth, steady and well-received process. The next events are in planning for later this week. Details will be announced here.

The vaccination program continues to depend on available vaccine supply from the state, and only individuals in Phase 1A (health care workers) and Phase 1B (high-risk individuals) are currently eligible to get the vaccine. Our commitment is to use available supply as quickly as possible after it is received.

Although demand still outstrips supply and will continue to for several weeks, our regional allocation of vaccine is increasing and additional vaccines are on the way. We also are developing a waitlist and invitation feature to simplify future appointment making, increasing server and system capacity, and making other enhancements to our scheduling system to assist users.
