If you are a new faculty member that will be conducting research on campus, the following information will help you navigate the different requirements to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
First, contact Environmental Health and Safety Biosafety Program (x21781) to set up a meeting with one of our Biosafety Specialists. During this meeting you will be provided information and will have the opportunity to have your questions answered concerning setting up your research laboratory.
A walk through of your lab will be arranged with a Biosafety Specialist that will be there to assistant and advise you to ensure that you have meet all the safety requirements.

The Environmental Protection Management group has developed short documents that can be posted in the lab, or maintained in a binder, concerning proper waste disposal.
The Hazardous Chemical training policy covers the need to have an HCA trainer (Hazardous Communication Act) in each lab. The Notice to Employees (English and Spanish version) needs to be available to all staff working in a hazardous environment.
The Occupational Safety and Fire Prevention group has developed a short document on Fire and Electrical prevention.
