December 2024 Message from the Executive Vice Provost

Dear colleagues,

I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. As we reflect on gratitude, I want to share my appreciation for UTMB faculty who make our work in the Office of Faculty Affairs so rewarding and meaningful. It is my team's privilege to serve you, and we are excitedly preparing for a full slate of events and programs to support your success in 2025.

First among them, Faculty Leadership Collaborative Early-Career Bootcamp is fast approaching in mid-January. The response has been fantastic so far, and we hope even more of our faculty at UTMB will register to take advantage of this unique development opportunity.

I am also very happy to share that we will launch the AAMC StandPoint Faculty and Staff Engagement Surveys on Jan. 28. This survey was designed more than 15 years ago for faculty from different schools in academic medicine. The last survey was taken by UTMB in 2015. With all new leadership it is the time for us to understand where we are and identify the areas of opportunities to move forward. You can read more about the surveys in this edition. This will be an important outlet for you to make your voices heard, so please do not miss the opportunity to participate.

Finally, if you have not visited the Office of Faculty Affairs website recently, please take the time to do so. We have upgraded our landing page to provide a comprehensive view of the office’s mission, vision, and programming. Though many pages are still under construction, I encourage you to explore the site and learn more about many initiatives that support faculty success.

As the holiday season continues, I hope you have abundant opportunities to spend time with your loved ones, relax, and reflect on the year. While our work never truly stops, it is important that we take some time for ourselves and our families and enjoy this season of gratitude and giving. On behalf of the Office of Faculty Affairs, I wish you a fantastic holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,
Susan Chubinskaya, PhD, MS, FIOR
Vice President and Executive Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
