A Personal Note from Dr. Leon
Greetings! I was born and raised in Caracas Venezuela. My university (universidad central de Venezuela escuela de medicina Luís razetti) prepared me to become the person I am today, not only in the professional aspect but also as a human being. During my training I was exposed to a broad clinical pathologies with the opportunity to learn from the best doctors of my country and to have a "full hands-on" training. I found that my best teachers were and still are my patients from whom I learn every single day. I decided to come to the United States in 2014 and found in Houston Texas my second home. During my free time I enjoy going out and spending time with my husband and daughter. I love to travel, to swim and to play the piano and the guitar.
I decided to be a family physician because I will be able to give continuity of care to my patients, from the youngest to the elderly, from the acute to the chronic patient, from the clinic to the hospital. I want to be an integrate professional and this is the specialty that fits me the best. Where I can treat my patient as a whole person and as part of a society instead of treating just a symptom. In other words, Being a family physician gives me the opportunity to really get to know my patients and their families.
I chose utmb family medicine residency because of the good work environment you feel as soon as you walk through the doors, where ethics, friendship and professionalism are our values. I feel proud to be part of this new family and can't wait to continue growing as a professional here. I'm interested in research, primary care and women's health and hope to fulfill my goals here at the University of Texas Medical Branch -Galveston.
