A PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. KIRKWOOD
Medicine has always been a part of my life with having four family members that are physicians. My dad, two uncles, and cousin have all influenced me in my career and shown me the challenges and rewards of being a physician. However, medicine is a calling and has always been a passion of mine. I attended Florida College in Tampa, Florida to pursue my education in Business, Communication, and Health Sciences. After finishing, I attended Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine located in Harrogate, Tennessee. I’m now proud to be a part of UTMB as a resident continually pursuing to increase my knowledge and skills as a physician.
Growing up in the Houston area, I’ve always been familiar with UTMB and the wonderful impact this place has on the community and beyond. It’s a great opportunity to be close to home while learning and participating at a well-known and established institution. I’m confident that my time at UTMB will be beneficial to future patients based on the experience I’ve gained already while being here.
Family Medicine offers such a broad scope of practice along with building relationships and providing opportunities for certain areas of interest, which is why I chose this specialty. My focus is to know my patients and their health needs and to serve the community to the best of my ability. My interests outside of medicine are music, church, sports, traveling, spending time with family/friends, and going to Disney World!
