A PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. MATIN
I grew up in Texas and I am so grateful to be back at home and to start residency at UTMB Galveston! I attended University of Texas at Dallas for my undergraduate degree and went to St. George’s University School of Medicine. During medical school I was able to travel and work with patients in Grenada, United Kingdom, Chicago and New York City. This allowed me to experience patients of different cultures, demographics and health care settings.
I chose family medicine because it offers an opportunity to care for patients over a lifetime. There is no single focus and no stretch of age preferred. The diversity of patients’ challenges physicians to continue learning and stay up to date on a wide range of medical issues. I have always been fascinated to learn about others; the why and how their responses, their motivations, and how all of these characteristics are shaped by their own diverse interactions with the world.
My interests are in women’s health, hospitalist and urgent care and I am confident in UTMB to guide me towards my goals.
My hobbies include travelling, cooking and spending time with family and friends!
