2025 GSBS Distinguished Alumnus Award
This award is presented annually to a graduate who has made outstanding contributions in the area of service, involvement and leadership or has achieved special recognition in his or her professional career. This is the highest honor bestowed to an alumnus by the GSBS Alumni Associates.
About Dr. Sheth
Dr. Payal Sheth completed her PhD in the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UTMB in 2006.
As a molecular pharmacologist working in pharmaceutical industry for over 19 years, Dr. Sheth has contributed to delivery clinical candidates across Oncology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Cardiovascular and Neuroscience therapeutic areas.
Her career in pharmaceutical industry started in 2006 as a Senior Scientist in Protein Sciences & Biophysics team at the Schering-Plough Research Institute (SPRI). She joined Merck & Co. as a part of the acquisition of SPRI by Merck in 2009 and took on increasing responsibilities in the Pharmacology and Chemistry organizations.
Dr. Sheth is currently the Vice President of Discovery Biotherapeutics and Lead Discovery & Optimization organization at Bristol Myers Squibb, where she has worked since 2021.
In her role, she is responsible for driving molecular design, discovery, production, mechanistic & pharmacological profiling, culminating into clinical candidate delivery across therapeutic areas and modalities.
