This award, the highest honor bestowed by the Physician Assistant Studies Alumni Association, is presented annually to one alumnus who has made major contributions to the medical profession through commitment of excellence in patient care, research, publications, education, community service and/or leadership roles.


About Dr. Forister

J. Glenn Forister, PhD, PA-C, UTMB Class of 1990, is a distinguished academic and healthcare professional. He currently serves as the Dean of the School of Health Professions and is a Tenured Professor of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to coming to HSC, he served as division head of Physician Assistant Education in the School of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. His academic journey is marked by significant milestones beginning with the substantial influence of three key mentors: Dr. Dennis Blessing, Dr. Gene Jones, and the late Dr. Richard Rahr.

Dr. Forister holds a PhD in Education and Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of Nebraska, and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Investigation from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His academic career has been distinguished by notable contributions to physician assistant education. He has been recognized for outstanding teaching and is a Distinguished Fellow in the American Academy of Physician Associates.

Dr. Forister has been actively involved with the PA Education Association and has contributed as a feature editor, contributor, and reviewer for the Journal of Physician Assistant Education. He is also known for his textbook, “Introduction to Research and Medical Literature for Health Professionals,” which is a valuable resource for healthcare students and professionals.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Forister has a rich history of clinical practice. After completing his PA training at UTMB, he practiced in various specialties, including orthopedic surgery, family medicine, and urgent care. He also served as a PA and commissioned officer in the U.S. Army/Army Reserve Medical Specialty Corps from 2000 to 2008.
