This award recognizes a student(s) that has demonstrated leadership and contributed significantly to the School of Nursing during the academic year.
About Clayton Collins
Clayton Collins is a native Texan, born in Houston before moving to Friendswood at eight years old. After earning an Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) from Alvin Community College in 2010, he started his nursing career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nurse at the Shriners Children’s Texas Hospital in Galveston. He then completed the RN-BSN track program at the UTMB School of Nursing in 2013 and went on to become the Clinical Education Coordinator at Shriners. He very recently joined the NEAR (Nurse Residency Advancement & Resources) nursing education team at UTMB.
Mr. Collins aspires to serve his community by becoming a strong leader in nursing. He chose to return to UTMB to continue his education and enrolled in the Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing—Executive Nurse Leader program in 2020. Mr. Collins has had many invaluable opportunities including representing UTMB MSN students on the Academic Mission and Evaluation Committee. He also led a Success Networking Team with the National Society of Leadership and Success and became an inducted member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Mr. Collins completed the MSN-ENL program in August 2022 and is continuing his education at UTMB with a Post-Master’s Nurse Educator certificate.
Mr. Collins has had invaluable mentorship throughout his time as a student at UTMB, especially from Drs. J. Michael Leger, Tammy Cupit, DeMonica Junious, and Sheba Luke. Mr. Collins also credits his success to his wife, Amanda, son Curtis, and their family. Mr. Collins is an Eagle Scout and has served Camp Janus, a camp for pediatric burn survivors, for the last 10 years as secretary. He was also recognized in the Galveston Daily News 40 Under 40 feature.
