The Physicians for Humans Rights (PHR) student chapter is having its launch at UTMB! The goal of this organization is to create a greater culture of humanitarian concern and awareness at this UTMB. Shannon Guillot-Wright will give a talk on The Health of Migrant Workers. Shannon Guillot-Wright is a Community Health Research Fellow in the Office of Health Policy and Legislative Affairs and Ph.D. Candidate at the Institute for the Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Her research focuses on the social determinants of health, with a specific focus on how structural violence affects health and well-being intergenerationally. Prior to joining UTMB, she received an MA in Human Rights from Columbia University where she studied the historical and political discursive practices that legitimized ICE detention centers and a BA in Urban Studies from Southern Nazarene University, with an emphasis in sociology, psychology, and religious studies.
