Kudos to the Community Health Program for representing UTMB at the FACE/St. Vincent’s Fall Family Fest, which had a great turnout.
The goal was to provide students and their families with tools and resources needed to thrive during the coming winter months.
CHP provided: Information about:
- Diabetes and diabetes management
- Stroke
- Blood pressure
- Blood pressure and blood sugar logs
- Smoking
- Heart disease
- And of course, information about the Community Health Program
During one blood pressure screening, we discovered that one woman’s blood pressure was very elevated in the 180/115 range. Dr. Jamal Islam happened to be visiting our table and was able to provide counseling and directive for immediate follow-up with her physician.
Representatives from Texas Eye Prevention, Coastal Health and Wellness and Immigration were there, as well, so we had opportunities for networking. The Galveston County Food Bank was also a sponsor.
The CHP staff really enjoyed it!
