Since Yicell Gonzalez began her job as a patient support specialist, she has spent almost every waking moment learning.
“There are a lot of different providers and a lot of specialties,” Gonzalez said. “At my last job I only had one doctor, and there are a lot of doctors on this site. I’m still learning about what each doctor does and what they specialize in.”
Gonzalez works at the Webster Adult Primary Care Clinic, and when she’s not at work, she’s in class. She graduated from Dobie High School and still lives in the Pearland/Pasadena area.
“I am currently going to school online,” Gonzalez said. “I plan on pursuing nursing.”
She’s already learning skills that will help her as her health care career evolves.
“I worked at a dental office for three years,” Gonzalez said. “I used to verify insurance and everything, and then from there was my first front desk job. You need to use good communication, and I would say be good at multitasking and at handling all types of different personalities, all types of situations. And you have to be empathetic.”
When she’s not helping with patient care or taking a class, Gonzalez enjoys taking care of herself and enjoys going to the gym.
Gonzalez said her favorite thing about the job is her coworkers.
Her supervisor, Simon Gallardo, said Gonzalez has proven a good fit.
“She’s very upbeat and brings a nice energy to the team,” Gallardo said. “She has fit right in with the team and is more than willing to help in all aspects of the patient support services tasks.”
“The best thing about this job is pretty much the people,” Gonzalez said. “They’re great.”
