In Texas, March is springtime. It means bluebonnets and the most wonderful weather of our year! March Madness is happening now. April and opening day for baseball season are just around the corner.
Spring is about new beginnings, and I remain hopeful for all my “teams” and am optimistic that the worst of COVID is in our rearview.
UTMB is one team that I am most proud to be part of! We participate in the consummate team sport in the Health System centered around the patient.
What has impressed me so much since I joined five years ago is that as a team, we possess a unique pride that I have not witnessed anywhere else in my career at two other academic medical centers.
This pride comes from our mission of service, and we have a strong legacy of having a special fortitude to weather adverse conditions.
We have such a compelling mission to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world by offering innovative education and training, pursuing cutting-edge research and providing the highest-quality patient care.
Our values are those that are important to me personally—demonstrating compassion, always acting with integrity, showing respect to all and promoting lifelong learning. I hope that I demonstrate these values to you in my work each and every day.
I am so proud to work for an Essential Hospital, as Essential Hospitals share a common mission to care for all people.
I came to UTMB to solve problems and provide value to you, our patients and to the organization. I am privileged to support the team by sharing my prior experiences, and then I am fortunate to gain opportunities in newfound learnings and by partnerships with wonderful colleagues.
This spring, we are welcoming many new members who are joining our amazing UTMB team at an important juncture in our continued growth and expansion. Please welcome our new colleagues with open arms into our UTMB family and allow them to realize the same sense of pride and purpose to their day.
My thanks and appreciation to each of you and the wonderful work that you do in support of our mission. Please let me know if and how I can assist you. Enjoy your springtime!
Sincerely,
James Amato
