As Dr. Jochen Reiser shared his vision for UTMB’s transformative reorganization in the fall, we have arrived upon a new opportunity to build on our institution’s tremendous clinical strengths and enhance service to our communities.
In my health care leadership experience, particularly as chief physician executive, I have seen firsthand the value of close collaboration between executive leadership and clinical operations leaders to ensure the delivery of high-quality health care. We must be aligned in our goals and actions to effectively fulfill our missions.
The organizational changes made in our clinical areas represent a move toward this greater alignment. Additionally, the integration of providers and ambulatory staff in a more intimate way is designed to help us short-cycle improvements.
In my role working with Ambulatory Operations and Procedural Services along with the Faculty Group Practice, my goal is to help bridge gaps between administrative leadership, our clinical providers and our health care staff members to ensure better communication, shared decision making and improved care and outcomes for the patients we serve.
Our Executive Leadership and Clinical Enterprise Leadership are working closely to identify targets and priorities, including the development of teams where medical directors closely partner with managers to handle operational challenges like schedules, staff recruitment, access and patient experience at a local level.
Those who work in our clinical areas bring essential skills, knowledge and experience critical to this new phase of our patient care mission. Just as importantly, this is a workforce that is resilient and passionate about the work we do at UTMB Health.
I am committed to providing leadership that will leverage all our collective strengths to inform the way forward for our Clinical Enterprise. I look forward to working with our ambulatory and procedural services teams, Dr. Reiser and leaders across UTMB to realize our shared vision of a world-class health care system that instills hope and pride in all and will continue to make us all proud.
