  • 1) Q: Will students, faculty and standardized patients (SPs) be required to wear masks at all times in the HEC? If so, who will provide the masks?

    A: MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES. THE HEC WILL PROVIDE MASKS FOR SPs. STUDENTS & FACULTY ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE THEIR OWN MASKS ON ARRIVAL.

  • 2) Q: If someone turns up without a mask, will they be sent away or will one be provided?

    A: THE HEC WILL HAVE EXTRA MASKS AVAILABLE. WE WILL NOT TURN PEOPLE AWAY.

  • 3) Q: Will any other PPE be required during session activities?

    A: YES. NON-HUMAN SIMULATION-GLOVES, MASK; PHYSICAL EXAMS WITH SPs- MASK, GLOVES; MUTA/GTA - MASK, GLOVES, GOWN, FACE SHEILD.

  • 4) Q: Will students be able to practice skills with a partner (ie, auscultation, taking a blood, taking a temperature) or do they have to work with task trainers/simulators only?

    A: SIMULATORS & TASK TRAINERS ONLY AT THIS TIME. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO WORK WITH A PARTNER UNTIL THE SOCIAL DISTANCING ADVISORY HAS BEEN LIFTED.

  • 5) Q: How many people can be in a session at one time?

    A: 2ND FLOOR SKILLS LABS (A, B & C) 10 PEOPLE INCLUDING FACULTY/FACILITATORS & INDIVIDUAL SIMULATION ROOM ROOMS 5 PEOPLE INCLUDING FACULTY/FACILITATORS.

  • 6) Q: Currently, Texas guidance outlines only 25% capacity in a building. How will the HEC adhere to these regulations?

    A: THE HEC WILL ONLY BE OPEN FOR SCHEDULED SIMULATION ACTIVITIES, CAPACITY WILL BE MONITORED BY HEC STAFF.

  • 7) Q: Will students still be able to use the lockers?

    A: STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE WEARING MASKS AND WILL NEED TO USE HAND SANITIZER UPON ENTERING THE HEC SIMULATON SPACE. LOCKERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT USE AND WILL BE MARKED 6 FT APART. AFTER USING THE LOCKERS STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO USE HAND SANITIZER AGAIN. LOCKERS WILL BE CLEANED REGULARLY IN THE HEC.

  • 8) Q: What steps are being taken to have the public & simulation spaces cleaned in the HEC?

    A: FOLLOWING CDC GUIDELINES, THE HEC HOUSE KEEPING STAFF WILL BE REGULARLY CLEANING PUBLIC & SIMULATION SPACES. HEC STAFF WILL ALSO BE ENSURING SIMULATORS, TASK TRAINERS & EQUIPMENT ARE CLEANED BETWEEN ALL ACTIVITIES. HAND SANITIZER WILL BE AVAILABLE IN HEC PUBLIC & SIMULATION SPACES. STUDENTS, STAFF & FACULTY WILL ALSO HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO WASH HANDS REGULARLY.

  • 9) Q: Are there any HEC simulation activities that we are not allowing to take place this summer?

    A: NO. ALTHOUGH AN ACTIVITY MAY NEED TO BE MODIFIED TO MEET CURRENT COVID-19 REGULATONS.

  • 10) Q: Will Students, Staff and Faulty be screened prior to entering the HEC?

    A: STUDENTS, STAFF & FACULTY WILL BE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW UTMB SCREENING POLICIES OUTLINED BELOW. ANYONE WHO TRAVELS MUST COMPLETE THE UTMB TRAVEL FORM. STUDENTS, STAFF & FACULTY WILL NEED TO FOLLOW UTMB’s SELF-SCREENING QUESTIONS. THESE SCREENING QUESTIONS WILL ALSO BE POSTED IN THE HEC AND ANYONE WHO IS UNWELL AND/OR SYMPTOMATIC ARE ASKED TO STAY AT HOME PER THE GUIDELINES BELOW.

SCREENING GUIDANCE:

HAVE YOU BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH COVID IN THE LAST 14 DAYS? VISITORS MUST NOT COME TO UTMB/HEC UNTIL A MINIMUM OF 10 DAYS AFTER ONSET OF SYMPTOMS AND WITH AT LEAST 3 DAYS OF RESOLUTION OF SYMPTOMS. YOU MUST BE CLEARED BY A UTMB PHYSICIAN OR EMPLOYEE/STUDENT HEALTH TO RETURN TO THE CENTER/CLASSROOM.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WITH COVID IN THE PAST 14 DAYS, YOU ARE NOT PERMIITTED TO ENTER THE HEC FOR 14 DAYS AFTER THE LAST CONTACT WITH THIS PERSON.

SYMPTOMS OF POSSIBLE COVID-19 WITHIN THE PAST 7 DAYS BELOW: IF YES, YOU MUST BE EVALUATED FOR COVID & CLEARED BY A UTMB PHYSICIAN OR EMPLOYEE/STUDENT HEALTH:

  • NEW ONSET COUGH
  • SHORTNESS OF BREATH OR DIFFICULTY BREATHING
  • CHILLS
  • MUSCLE PAIN
  • HEADACHE
  • SORE THROAT
  • LOSS OF TASTE OR SMELL
  • DIARRHEA
  • FEELING FEVERISH OR A MEASURED TEMPERATURE GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 100.3 DEG FAHRENHEIT
