Excellence in Interprofessional Education Awards
Purpose
To recognize teams or individuals whose efforts have made a significant impact on interprofessional education and practice at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Eligibility
One award will be presented to each of the following:
- Educator, faculty, researcher – This teaching award is given to a faculty member or faculty team who excels in implementing interprofessional pedagogy into best practices.
- Staff – The award is given to a member of the UTMB staff who supports interprofessional education and practice activities.
- Student - This award is given to a student from the five schools who has demonstrated consistent engagement in an interprofessional collaborative practice within the clinic, classroom and/or community.
Awards
Awards will be given out as follows:
Student - $200.00
Staff - $200.00
Educator, Faculty or Researcher (individual) - $200.00
Educator, Faculty or Researcher (team) - $200.00 each team member, not to exceed $1,000.00
Criteria
Accomplishments for recognition of this award included but are not limited to teams or individuals who demonstrate exemplary interprofessional collaboration in at least one of the following areas:
Education – (Faculty, Educator)
- Engages with the faculty, committees, administrators, and/or assessment professionals to facilitate IPE in the curriculum.
- Develops student interprofessional educational experiences/opportunities
- Contributes to a positive culture to support student learning using IPEC competencies as a framework
- Demonstrates an understanding of Interprofessional education and collaborative practice and its relationship to curricular development
- Uses IPE data and feedback to improve student learning
- Uses knowledge, skills, and literature to advocate new/revised IPE methods and scholarship
- Demonstrate exemplary leadership in the development and implementation of interprofessional practice, education, or research incorporating the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies1:
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Roles and responsibilities
- Values and ethics
Practice
- Demonstrates evidence for developing excellent interprofessional practice in the clinical environment
- Demonstrates the impact of interprofessional practice on quality of patient care and/ or the community
- Shares a vision and passion for collaborative practice and enlists others to the team through a demonstration of mutual respect, trust building and empowerment of team members
- Displays evidence of continuous quality improvement in enhancing the practice environment
- Demonstrates exemplary leadership in the development and implementation of interprofessional practice, education, or research incorporating the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies:
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Roles and responsibilities
- Values and ethics
Research
- Conducts research with an interprofessional
- Conducts research that is directly related to interprofessional education and/or collaborative practice.
- Demonstrates exemplary leadership in the development and implementation of interprofessional practice, education, or research incorporating the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies:
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Roles and responsibilities
- Values and ethics
- Conducted research related to interprofessional education/collaborative
Community
- Actively promoting interprofessional care in the local or regional community
- Contributing to the improvement of health of at-risk population by working on an interprofessional community organization
- Demonstrating a collaborative, productive relation among UTMB and community partner that is mutually beneficial
- Helping to create positive change or impact on societal issues by active engagement with community partners
- Demonstrates exemplary leadership in the development and implementation of interprofessional practice, education, or research incorporating the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies:
