The new Jennie Sealy Hospital is set to be dedicated on February 26th. This facility represents a monumental investment of $438 million. Way back in 2009, the 81st Legislature approved a $150 million tuition revenue bond to go towards the construction of this hospital effectively sending the message that UTMB wasn’t going anywhere after being hit by Hurricane Ike in 2008. The balance of the funding came from The Sealy & Smith Foundation ($170M), philanthropic contributions ($100M) and university resources ($18M).
The new hospital will have 310 state-of-the-art patient rooms with beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico or Galveston Bay.
The Jennie Sealy Hospital will officially open for patients later this spring.
