2020–2021 Flu Free Vaccination Program

Sep 10, 2020, 17:03 PM by Alexa Akim

Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness that affects 5 to 20 percent of Americans each year and results in more than 200,000 hospitalizations. To help prevent the spread of this potentially serious disease, UTMB offers its employees and volunteers free flu shots each year.

Health Care Worker Requirements

As a condition of continued employment, all health care workers must get an annual flu shot or formally decline the vaccination by signing this statement. This institutional requirement applies to anyone who provides direct patient care, enters patient rooms and/or comes within six feet of patients in the course of his or her duties.

All other members of the UTMB community are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, unless prohibited for medical reasons.

Vaccination Locations

UTMB's Flu Free vaccination program is provided in partnership with UT SELECT, a PPO plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, and the quadrivalent influenza vaccine is available at the locations identified below.

This year, employees and volunteers who receive a flu shot at a UTMB facility are asked to complete this attestation/consent as proof of vaccination. The attestation/consent should be submitted within 24 hours of being vaccinated.

  • A valid UTMB employee badge must be presented at the time of vaccination.
  • Health care workers who receive a flu shot at a non-UTMB facility must provide Employee Health with acceptable proof of vaccination.
  • Vaccinated health care workers will receive a 2020–2021 Flu Free card that must be worn with the UTMB employee badge throughout the flu season.
  • Health care workers who do not get vaccinated will be reassigned to other duties or required to wear a mask when providing patient care for the duration of the flu season.
