The UTMB Health Institute for the Medical Humanities is pleased to share that S. Ryan Greyson, MD, MHS, MA, (IMH `01) has accepted a position as Assistant Professor and Research Faculty at the University of California, San Francisco Division of Hospital Medicine.

Dr. Greyson shares that he is "working on improving the quality of hospital discharge/transitions in care using patient-centered and community-centered approaches—also doing a lot with medical education and quality improvement around discharge care."

Dr. Greyson also shared that an article he began as a fourth-year medical student in Dr. Chester Burns' medical history elective has been published in Academic Medicine. The article, "A History of Medical Student Debt: Observations and Implications for the Future of Medical Education," was also mentioned in the New York Times' health blog, Well (July 8, 2011).

Dr. Greyson completed a Master of Arts through the Institute in 2001 with the thesis "A Place for Piety: The Role of Religion in Early Anglo-American Texts on Medical Ethics". Dr. Chester Burns was his advisor. Following graduation, he continued his studies earning an MA from University of Pennsylvania and an MD from UTMB Health. He also completed a two years at Yale University's Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program.
