New Students this Fall

The UTMB Health Institute for the Medical Humanities is pleased to welcome two new students to its Medical Humanities Graduate Program. Deborah McNabb, BA, MD will be pursuing a Master's degree, and Ye-kyung Song, BS is pursuing a Doctorate in combination with a Medical Doctorate.

Deborah McNabb, BA, MD, also known as Debbie, graduated from the University of Texas in 1979 with a BA in Biology.  She later went on to graduate from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1984, receiving her MD degree.  She finished her residency in OB/Gyn at the UT Health Science Center, San Antonio, in 1988. Following that, she had a private practice in San Antonio.  She has been married for 32 years to Graham Hall, who is a pediatrician, and she has two children:  daughter, Kate, age 26 and son, Trevor, age 23. Debbie joined the medical humanities graduate program in the fall of 2015 to pursue an MA degree.  She has had a life-long interest in the humanities and a career-long interest in bioethics. Following graduation she hopes to teach medical or college students or peers in CME courses. Her advisor is Dr. Anne Hudson Jones.

Ye-kyung Song, also known as Yekki, graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in Biochemistry, minoring in Medicine and Society.  After completing three years of medical school in the MD/PhD Program, she joined the Institute in Fall 2015. Her research interests are constantly evolving; currently, she is interested in basic science and clinical research ethics, factors contributing to health disparities in the Houston-Galveston area, and issues in surgical ethics. Her advisor is Dr. Anne Hudson Jones.
