Rudkin Named Director

The Institute for the Medical Humanities (IMH) is pleased to announce that Laura Rudkin, PhD, has been named Interim Director of IMH, effective immediately.

Dr. Rudkin is the Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health, of which IMH is a part. She is a knowledgeable leader, educator, and researcher, who is dedicated to building healthier communities

Dr. Rudkin earned a Masters of Science in Sociology from the University of Iowa and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Sociology and Demography from Princeton University. She is highly respected in the public health research community. Her primary research interest is the influence of social factors on health outcomes, an interest that is relevant to the medical humanities.

Dr. Rudkin is an elected member of the University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education, a University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor, and a 2013 recipient of the University of Texas System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award. She co-chaired the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health's (ASPPH) Leadership Retreat Planning Committee in 2017, and served as president of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) from 2014 to 2016.
