Recent UTMB initiatives
  • In July 2020, UTMB was name to the to the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals  list. Specifically, UTMB ranked in the top 15 nationwide among major teaching hospitals on the list.
  • In 2017 UTMB began a journey to improve our quality, accountability, and safety rating in order to provide the BEST CARE possible for our patient and become a top hospital nationally as ranked on the annual Vizient Quality and accountability journey. We achieved a 5-star rating and the Vizient Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD Quality leadership award in 2017,  2018,  and 2019 for this work. 
  • New 500 million dollar hospital construction completed with the creation of Jennie Sealy Hospital in April 2018 including 310 patient rooms, 60 ICU rooms, and 16 physician work rooms. This will allow UTMB to continue to be a leader in Texas medical care along the Gulf Coast.  Indigent care, private insurance patients, prison health, telemedicine, level 1 trauma emergency care are all available at UTMB's main campus in Galveston. Would you like to know more?
  • UTMB provides the perfect opportunity for "one stop, one shop, training paradise." This is evident in clinical opportunities available at the new Jennie Sealy Hospital, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital, University Hospital Clinics, and the Victory Lakes Multispecialty Care Center.
  • On September 17, 2018 UTMB Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center officially began a first-of-its-kind collaboration between two University of Texas institutions.  This collaboration will take advantage of the strengths of each institution to provide oncology care in our area.  Would you like to know more?
