Dr. Cantu received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin before joining UTMB as a postdoctoral scholar on the National Institute on Aging (NIA) funded T-32 on Minority Aging Health. His research on racial and social disparities in
healthy life expectancy has been published in The Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, Aging & Mental Health, Innovation on Aging, The Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, and other peer reviewed journals. His current research focuses on
caregiving and social relationships of older Mexican Americans, specifically for older adults with dementia. Dr. Cantu is excited to join the Division of Geriatrics and looks forward to new collaborations.
