UTMB Now Prohibits All Tobacco Use

UTMB has adopted a tobacco-free policy to protect the health and safety of its employees, students, patients and visitors.

The policy is an extension of the institutional smoking ban introduced in 1990. It prohibits the use of cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, smokeless tobacco, and all other forms of tobacco on UTMB’s grounds, inside its buildings and vehicles, and at university-sponsored events. This includes locations that are owned, leased or controlled by UTMB.

The university offers a tobacco cessation program to help employees who may have difficulty complying with the revised policy. For more information about the policy and the institution’s tobacco cessation resources, please see the Employee Health Promotion web page.
