Collect nasopharygeal swab or nasal washings

Transport on ice or cold to the laboratory as soon as possible

Collect NP swab or nasal washings and place in VTM.

Improper collection or transport conditions, delayed transport, transport at room temperature, wooden shaft swabs in VTM, swabs not in VTM, unlabeled or mislabeled samples, no date and time of collection

Turnaround Time:

Test is performed twice daily during respiratory season (winter). It is performed as long into spring as cases are in the community or when approved by a Director of Clinical Microbiology.
