Special Instructions:

1. Obtain transport medium from Surgical Pathology Gross Room, 4.414, Clinical Services Wing, 409-772-2855

2. Contact Renal Pathologist.

3. Patient information form must be completed.

4. Orders must be placed in Beaker and must  include the physician's name, ID number, signature, clinical history and diagnosis.


Needle biopsy, fine needle aspiration, surgical excision.


Vial with 2% glutaraldehyde plus 2% paraformaldehyde or Zamboni obtained from Surgical Pathology Gross Room, 4.414, Clinical Services Wing.


Tissue is placed in 2% glutaraldehyde plus 2% paraformaldehyde or Zamboni soluction which is available in the Surgical Pathology Gross Room, 4.414 Clinical Services Wing, Specimen should be labeled with patient's name, unit history number and specimen identification.  The specimen should be delivered immediately to Surgical Pathology Gross Room, 4.414, Clinical Services Wing.  Short term storage 4º C if necessary.  DO NOT FREEZE.

Causes for Rejection:

Order not placed in Beaker, Improper fixation, sample not noted appropriately, improper labeling, contaminated container.

Availability: Contact the Renal Pathologist.  Deliver to Surgical Pathology Gross Room Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  Also, available after hours, on weekends and holidays by renal pathologist on call.
