Specimen Requirements:

No special patient preparation is necessary.

Collection:

Routine venipuncture.  Preferred: SST(gel barrier), PST(Plasma separator tube), Red-topped tube (see storage instruction) and RST (rapid separator tube) (Min.: 3mL of blood)

Minimum Volume:

3 mL of blood

Storage/Transport:

Delivered to Sample Management within 2 hours of collection.

Specimen Preparation:

Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature.  Centrifuge serum from cells within 2 hours of collection.

Stability:

Room Temperature for ≤ 24 hours, Refrigerated for 14 days

Causes for Rejection:

Incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, improper tube type and/or improper storage, transport.  Gross hemolysis.

Reference Range:

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex).

Turnaround Time:

STAT: 1 hour      Routine: 8 hours
