Note: | This assay measures BK Virus DNA using real-time PCR. The dynamic range of the assay is 500 - 5,000,000 IU/mL. A result of <500 IU/mL does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient's specimen or that BK Virus DNA concentrations may be below the level of quantification. Care should be taken when interpreting any single viral load determination and the test is intended for use in conjunction with clinical presentation and other laboratory results. |
When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient. Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually. The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-10 code or its verbal equivalent. |
