Kappa Lambda Free Light Chains w/ Ratio, Serum (8000101669)
Test Mnemonic:

Specimen Requirements:
Test Included:

Kappa Free Light Chains

Lambda Free Light Chains

Kappa/Lambda Ratio

Routine Collection.  Only serum samples can be used for Kappa and Lambda Free Ligh Chain Assays.

SST, Red Top

Minimum Volume:

3 ml

Deliver to Sample Management within 2 hours if unspun.

Specimen Preparation:

Specimens should be centrifuged and serum removed from the clot within 2 hours of collection. Pour over the serum from the red top into a plastic transfer vial and cap.  If collected in an SST tube, the specimen can be stored in the collection device after centrifugation.

Samples stored at 2-8°C are stable for 21 days; longer storage should be kept at -20°C. Repeated freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided to minimize potential protein degradation.

Causes for Rejection:

Incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, improper storage/transport specimen should be rejected.

Severely turbid samples should not be used.

Reference Range:

Kappa Free Light Chain: 2.37-20.73 mg/L

Lambda Free Light Chain: 4.23-27.69 mg/L

Kappa/Lambda Ratio: 0.22 - 1.74

Turnaround Time:

Routine turnaround time is 8 hours.

STAT turnaround time is 1 hour.

Latex enhanced immunoturbidimetric.

Galveston Clinical Chemistry
