MICROALBUMIN, urine (087-7049)

Specimen Requirements:
Test Included:

Urine volume, microalbumin concentration, microalbumin excretion, urine creatinine.

Collection:

 

A 2 Liter 24-hour urine collection container without preservatives, containing total urine contents voided within 24 hours.     Acceptable:  10 mL of first morning urine specimen collected in a sterile evacuated urine specimen tube or container with no preservative.      

Container:

 

A sterile evacuated urine specimen tube or container with no preservative.      

Storage/Transport:

Urine samples may be stored at 2°C to 8°C for up to 72 hours. Frozen samples are not recommended.

Causes for Rejection:

Specimen collected with any preservative, gross hematuria, gross blood contamination, and glass collection containers.   Improperly labeled specimen, improper storage/transport, and QNS specimen

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note volume of urine and number of hours of collection on the request form. Note date and time the collection is started and finished.  Director approval required for STAT requests.

Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually. The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-10 code or its verbal equivalent.
