Specimen Requirements: | |
Collection: | 7 mL Green-topped (heparinized) vacutainer tube. A minimum of 5mL of blood is acceptable; less than 5mL of blood is not acceptable. Blood should be kept at body temperature (37°C) and hand delivered to the laboratory within 30 minutes of collection. |
Storage/Transport: |
Prompt delivery to Sample Management within 30 minutes |
Specimen Preparation: |
Place specimen in 37°C water bath for one hour. Centrifuge and transfer as much plasma as possible without touching the buffy coat into a clean 15 mL screw cap graduated centrifuge tube. Store sample at room temperature until testing can be performed |
Stability: | Room temperature for ≤ 1 week. |
Causes for Rejection: | Specimen not deliver at the correct temperature, incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, improper storage/transport, and lipemia. |
