Goals & Objectives |
To provide an opportunity for students to experience a clinical learning environment in the settings of Neurology practice, receive exposure to the wide range of neurological cases, develop greater understanding of the role of neurologists in the patient care. Following the preceptorship, students should be able to demonstrate the ability to establish rapport with patients, basic understanding of common neurological problems, recognize importance of interdisciplinary approach to many neurological disorders, demonstrate an awareness and appropriate use of resources available for comprehensive patient care. |
Description of course
activities |
The Department of Neurology sponsors a pre-clinical preceptorship program. Students will work either with a practitioner in the program who best matches their interests and location preference or participate in one or more of the clinical services (potentially including outpatient clinic, inpatient consults, and/wards). Students will accompany the practitioners in their daily activities, which may include office-based care, hospital rounds, diagnostic studies (such as EEG or EMG), teaching conferences, meetings and other activities. Students will be encouraged to become as actively involved in patient care activities as their level of training permits. |
