The Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases
functions as a Center within the Department of Neurology, chaired by Dr.
Anish Bhardwaj, MD. Faculty members of The Center have primary
appointments in Departments and Divisions across The School of
Medicine. The Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases is home
to a collaborative group of UTMB faculty dedicated to the continuum of
basic science for the discovery, testing, development, and application
of new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. Members of The
Mitchell Center are committed to pursuing translational research with
the ultimate goal of improved quality of life for patients affected by
increasingly prevalent disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
diseases and related neurodegenerative conditions.
The Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases was founded in 2001 following an endowment established by George and Cynthia Mitchell on behalf of The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation
and The George and Cynthia Mitchell Charitable Remainder Unitrust to
the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System for the use and
benefit of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
