The Department of Neurosurgery at UTMB has acquired the latest technology available for neurosurgery and reconstructive spine procedures including the O-arm Surgical Imaging System. This is a multi-dimensional surgical imaging platform that is optimized for use in spine surgery. It provides real-time, intra-operative imaging of a patient's anatomy with high quality images and a large field-of-view in both two and three dimensions.

By integrating O-arm surgical imaging technology with Medtronic's StealthStation surgical navigation systems, surgeons are able to perform less invasive procedures and confirm the precise placement of implants before the patient leaves the Operating Room.


 

Imaging

In our dedicated operating rooms we have incorporated the latest technology for the treatment of neurosurgical disorders including the ZEISS KINEVO 900. When precise repositioning is required to reexamine previously visualized structures or when we need to align with a pre-mapped trajectory, making use of all six axes, the Robotic Visualization System® delivers precise positioning at the push of a button.


RosaROSA ONE Brain is a robotic platform to assist surgeons in planning and performing complex neurosurgical procedures in a minimally invasive manner. It has a variety of applications including placement of electrodes for Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), deep brain stimulation (DBS), stereotactic biopsy and ventricular or transnasal endoscopy.

This Navigation system allows our neurosurgeons to precisely track their surgical instruments real-time in relation to the patient’s anatomy helping us perform safer and more precise procedures, decrease the risk associated with more invasive approaches and improve outcome, recovery time and patient satisfaction.

Other: CUSA (Ultrasonic aspirator), CRW Radionics framed stereotaxy for both biopsy and functional work. Neurophysiological monitoring (including SSEP, cortical and subcortical mapping, brainstem evoked potentials, facial and peripheral nerve monopolar stimulation and recording). Our operating rooms are also equipped with flat screen monitors for staff and medical students.
