Jamal to chair Otolaryngology at John Sealy School of Medicine

Dr. Nausheen Jamal will chair the Department of Otolaryngology at the John Sealy School of Medicine at the University of Texas Branch at Galveston.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to return home while continuing to serve the people of Texas, and in particular, the people of Galveston and Houston," Jamal said.

"I look forward to joining and leading the excellent team at the UTMB Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. I am excited to lead the continued growth of UTMB’s preeminent department into one that will lead not only with its research and clinical enterprises, but also become a model for diversity, inclusion, and clinical research collaborations that will usher in the healthcare advances of the future.”

Previously, Jamal was at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine as an associate professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She oversaw the expansion of graduate medical education to 19 accredited residency and fellowship programs across five hospital partners. She also expanded clinical operations within her department.

Jamal's scholarship centers around resident physician well-being and resiliency, enhancing diversity, and building pipelines to medical education.

Her position is effective Sept. 1.
