New BSL2 microscopy facility at MRB.

Live Cell Confocal and TIRF Microscope.

GNL-BSL2, Olympus Fluoview 1000 upright confocal/multiphoton microscope:

FV1000MThis system is located in the GNL within a BSL2 facility. This instrument is an Olympus FluoView 1000 system configured with an upright Olympus IX61 microscope stand and equipped with confocal and multiphoton capabilities. The confocal side of this system is similar to the FV1000 system described for the GNL-BSL3 core. Briefly, excitation is provided by 4 lasers with lines at 405, 457, 488, 514, 543 and 633 nm. Confocal detection is provided by 3 descanned fluorescence detectors, two of which have spectral imaging capabilities. The system is also equipped with one transmitted light detector. For multiphoton imaging this system is equipped with an Spectra Physics Maitai-DeepSee ultrafast tunable laser and two external detectors. A full enclosure provides temperature control for live samples. For confocal applications the system is equipped with a motorized stage which can be removed to accommodate larger samples for multiphoton microscopy. This microscope is not available for independent operation, a member of the core staff should be running the system operation at all times during the imaging sessions.
