Overview:
Dr. Massey has more than 10 years of research experience with
bacterial pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions most recently
working on animal model development for aerosol infections with Burkholderia mallei and Burkholderia pseudomallei.
As a member of the Institutional Office of Regulated Nonclinical
Studies, Dr. Massey is involved in designing and implementing study
protocols for the development of animal models of infectious disease as
well as conducting the molecular assays required on study protocols.
Research interests:
Dr. Massey is interested in the development of infectious disease
models that can be used to evaluate medical countermeasures
particularly the Tier 1 select agents Burkholderia mallei and Burkholderia psuedomallei.
These agents, which are endemic to certain regions of the world,
currently have no vaccine available and antibiotics require a rigorous
6-month treatment regimen.
