To gain the most benefit from the exercises below,  you should have a general understanding of tympanometry, TM anatomy, and the severity grading system used before getting started. 

To evaluate infected and abnormal tympanic membranes, you first need to be able to recognize normal anatomy.

Second you may wish to review the grading system for normal and abnormal tympanic membranes.

Tympanograms can be an important aid to appropriately diagnosing and caring for patients with otitis media.
