Overweight due to excessive cereal mixed with the formula. Adding cereal to the formula increases caloric value and can result in infantile obesity.
Constitutional short stature. Family may have adults or children who are also short.
Growth hormone deficiency. Both length and weight are significantly affected.
Normal breast fed baby. This is just a healthy baby, whose weight is appropriate for length.
Enviornmental failure to thrive. Length is usually preserved in these children, unless the deprivation is severe.
Hydrocephalus. Screen for hydrocephalus using an ultrasound through the open anterior fontanelle.
Normal catchup growth pattern developing from small-for-gestational-age status at birth.
Benign familial megalcephaly. Head is large but growing parallel to the normal curve. Check head circumferences of other family members.
