Text: What's the difference between height and length? Normal growth curves for body length for children under age three years were developed by measuring the child in the supine position on a length board.

Young children can not stand up straight enough for an accurate standing measurement. Therefore, children under age three need to be measured on a length board. Make sure that for children between two and three years of age, the appropriate growth chart is used depending on whether the child was measured lying down or standing up.
