  • Amy Smith MSN, BA, RN, ACM, CCM

    Amy Smith is Associate Vice President of Care Transitions, for University of Texas Medical Branch. UTMB is leading academic health care system that connects individuals and families to a wide rang od services at 3 hospitals and hundreds of convenient locations throughout the Houston/Galveston area.  She has more than 15 years of nursing experience in acute care settings, including seven years in both inpatient and outpatient case management. At UTMB, she has system oversight of Care Transitions to developing strategies and plans for population health, care management, and is currently completing her DNP in executive leadership. 

  • Leah Low, MD

    Low head shotAssistant Professor Associate 
    Dr. Leah Low is Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and serves a both the Medical Director of Care Management and the Patient Placement Center.  She has an extensive background in leadership and quality improvement for the institution.  She has served as Medical Director of several of the inpatient units, Team Leader over a group of faculty, Co-Chair of quality Improvement for the Department of Internal Medicine, and as an Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.  She is a graduate of our Scholars in Education course, our Clinical Safety and Effectiveness course, and the Physician Leadership Academy.

    Her educational background includes a BA in both Chemistry and Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002 and an MD degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 2006.  She completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2009, also at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

    Currently, she works as both a Hospitalist in Jennie Sealy Hospital, and as an ambulatory physician at our Primary Care Pavilion.

  • April Mears

    ADCcampus005April is the Business Operations Manager for the Patient Placement Center.  April started her career at UTMB in 1998 at the Pediatric Department. Two years later, April transferred to the Patient Placement Center.  April is passionate about working with her team to make the Patient Placement Center the best it can be. She looks forward to the growth on the horizon for the PPC and UTMB as a whole.

  • Therese Renee Brown

    Renee started at UTMB in the Patient Placement Center in 2005. Renee is the Evening Shift Team Leader. Renee worked at Salomon Smith Barney as a Senior Wire Operator for ten years before she decided to change her career path and made the move to UTMB.

  • Allen Simpson, BS

    Allen began working for UTMB in 2013 as a Patient Placement Coordinator.  He attended Texas A&M University- Kingsville on a Football Athletic Scholarship where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.  After graduating from college in 2009, he taught Biology and Chemistry at his Alma Mater, Ball High School, for two years.  He is a Team Leader in the Patient Placement Center.

  • Leslie Anne Beattie, RN

    Leslie started in the Patient Placement Center in 2008 as the Patient Transfer Coordinator RN.  She completed Nurses Training- Class of ’89 at Conestoga College-Stratford Campus, Stratford Ontario. Leslie worked at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, St. Thomas Ontario in MEG/SURG/ICU/CCU for eight years before making the move to UTMB TDCJ Hospital Galveston ICU in 1998 where she worked for six years and later as a Care Manager.

  • Priscilla Boothby, BBA

    PriscillaBoothbyAdministrative Coordinator
    Priscilla has worked for UTMB since 1991 in various roles including Project Management and Patient Placement Center Team Leader.  She assists with process improvement and special projects for the many different flows and processes that the Patient Placement Center coordinate.  She has a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin and was a Buyer for Dillard’s before returning to the island and starting her healthcare career.

  • Rosendo Cardoso, BSIE

    RosendoCardosoProcess Improvement Specialist II
    Rosendo began working for UTMB in 2015.  He is a Process Improvement Specialist with a background of Industrial Engineering and is certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt through the American Society for Quality.  He has worked on several improvement projects within hospital departments ranging from length of stay to more recently the Patient Placement Center. Before joining UTMB, Rosendo was part of the Office of Performance Improvement department at MD Anderson.

  • Amy Accardo

    LChospital32Amy joined the Patient Placement Center team at UTMB in 2017. She worked in radiology as a transcriptionist at River Oaks Imaging for six years and in various roles for Victory Women’s Imaging for eleven years.

  • Grace Dickerson, AAS, BBA

    Grace joined the UTMB family initially in 1996 and became part of the Patient Placement in 2003. After graduating from high school, she attended the local community college, Galveston College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration.  She then furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas, currently known as the University of Texas A&M Kingsville.

  • Anna Green

    AnnaGreenPatient Placement Coordinator
    Anna Green began working at UTMB in 2014 for the Patient Placement Center as a Patient Placement Coordinator. She began her training at Career Technical Institute and earned a certificate of completion in General Office Survey II. Later she attended College of the Mainland. Her career path has been wide and varied from restaurant management to diesel technician.

  • Jennifer Groh

    Jennifer has been a member of UTMB‘s Patient Placement Center as a Patient Placement Coordinator since 2015.  Prior to UTMB, she worked in the banking field for Bank of America, Guaranty Bank and Capital One.  Even though she held many titles in banking the most interesting was Fraud Investigator which she held for five years.

  • Richard G. Lemmond, BA

    RichardLemmondPatient Placement Coordinator
    Richard has been working for UTMB’s Patient Placement Center as a Patient Placement Coordinator since 2016.  After serving in the Marine Corps he earned his Associates of Liberal Arts at Angelina College. He later went on to earn his BA in International Relations with minors in Political Science and French at Midwestern State University. Richard is continuing his education through Norwich University to obtain an MA in International Relations with a focus on terrorism. Richard plans to obtain a PhD later on in life.

  • Julio Mejia

    JulioMejiaPatient Placement Coordinator
    Julio began working for UTMB’s Patient Placement Center in 2015 as a Patient Placement Coordinator.  He graduated from Ball High School in 2007 and enlisted in the United States Marines as an Administrative Specialist that same year. Julio served in Camp Pendleton CA before moving back to Galveston.

  • Desmond Pouncy

    Desmond joined the Patient Placement Center as a Patient Placement Coordinator in 2017. He graduated from Ball High School in the top ten percent of his class with a Distinguished Diploma in the summer of 2008. From there he attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches Texas where he worked towards a degree in Accounting before moving back home to Galveston to pursue new opportunities. He is a third generation UTMB employee.
