International Oversight Committee
Message from the President and Provost
One of the special characteristics of the UTMB community is our tradition of reaching out to people around the world to provide care, to collaborate on research and education projects, and to learn together. Our institution is proud to support these efforts but must consider the safety of our UTMB family members foremost.
In compliance with UT System policies, we have established an International Travel Request Process to review in advance all proposed international travel for UTMB-related purposes including study for credit, provision of clinical care, research or educational collaboration.
To assure timely consideration of proposed international travel, the international travel request process must be followed with the first step being completed at least three weeks before the proposed departure. This will allow time not only to gather additional security information prior to committee review, but also for potential appeal of denied exceptions.
Please note that in accordance with UT System policy, travel to countries on the US State Department travel warning list may be suspended. We do realize, however, that occasionally it may be appropriate to allow proposed travel to proceed due to special circumstances. Requests for special exemptions are addressed in the International Travel Request Processand will be presented to the International Oversight Committee (IOC) for approval.
We have every intention of continuing to support the outstanding work of UTMB faculty, students, and staff around the world. Following the international travel oversight process will assure that we continue to do so as safely as possible.
