Gulf Research Program Fellowships
The Early-Career Research Fellows receive two years of unrestricted funding to pursue the innovative research and unique collaborations that move coastal science forward. Applications are due February 20, 2019.
Science Policy Fellows gain first-hand professional experience as they spend one year alongside decision-makers at agencies across Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida. Applications are due March 6, 2019.
Private Funding
The SARC Career Development program was initiated in 2009 to support the ideas and work of investigators that complement the depth of sarcoma translational research and to help ensure the continual renewal of high-quality scientific researchers. Career Development Awards are awarded in the amount of $100,000 for one year. The second year award is pending availability of funds and satisfactory progress of the project. Funding Period Begins: July 1, 2019

The McKnight Scholar Awards encourage neuroscientists in the early stages of their careers to focus on disorders of learning and memory. The Awards support young scientists who: hold an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree; have completed formal postdoctoral training; and demonstrate a commitment to neuroscience. The Endowment Fund especially seeks applicants working on problems that, if solved at the basic level, would have immediate and significant impact on clinically relevant issues. Awards are $75,000 per year.

The Gilead Research Scholars program is designed to support basic and clinical research in the field of HIV. This award is intended for junior faculty who meet the criteria for Early Stage Investigator, as defined by the National Institutes of Health, have a strong career interest in HIV and have a research mentor with extensive experience in the field of HIV. Additional criteria is listed on the RFA.

The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Foundation Bridge Award supports young investigators (at or below the rank of associate professor) who have recently submitted an NIH R or other federally-funded equivalent award and have received competitive scores on their proposal, but were not funded, as they strengthen their proposal for resubmission to the NIH or other federal agency. Applicant must not have other federal funding or significant institutional bridge funding (greater than $25,000, excluding PI salary support).

The American Federation for Aging Research/Arthritis National Research Foundation Arthritis and Aging Research Grant seeks grant applications that focus on studying the underlying mechanisms by which aging processes contribute to the development of arthritis. Priority will be given to meritorious applications from newer, M.D. and/or Ph.D. applicants in early stage career development (equivalent to assistant professor and without serving as PI on an NIH R01 award). Applicants may request up to $100,000 in direct costs only.

In a collaborative effort, the Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) are seeking grant applications that focus on studying psoriatic arthritis. Applicants must be newer M.D. and/ or Ph.D. applicants at early stages in their career (equivalent to assistant professor/instructor/senior post-docs). Applicants may request up to $100,000 (direct cost only) per year.

The Leukemia Research Foundation Hollis Brownstein Research Grants Program currently funds New Investigator grants only. The amount is up to $100,000 for one year. Applicants are not required to be U.S. citizens. Research projects undertaken outside the U.S. will be considered. Funding cycle begins on July 1, 2019

The PhRMA Foundation Faculty Development Award identifies and supports clinical and basic scientists pursuing careers in clinical and translational pharmacology and encourages the development of junior research-oriented faculty who will use molecular, cellular, and systems pharmacology to advance human research with a focus on application to real world clinical issues.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is offering a second round of the Physician-Scientist Institutional Awards (PSIA) program which was instituted in 2017 to increase the number of single degree M.D.’s who enter research. A one-step full application submission will be utilized with proposals due February 15, 2019 at 4:00 EST.
The Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship Awards in Neuroscience supports, in the early stages of their careers, young investigators engaged in basic or clinical research that may lead to a better understanding of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

The goal of the ASTRO-PCF Career Development Award is to advance the field of radiation oncology in novel ways through support of talented early career scientists performing radiation oncology-related research. The award will provide up to $75,000 per year for three years to be combined with matching funds or in kind contribution from the applicant’s institution.

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research offers the Mentored Research Training Grants to help anesthesiologists develop the skills, preliminary data for subsequent grant applications and research publications needed to become independent investigators. Faculty members who have completed their core anesthesiology residency training within the past 10 years can apply for $250,000 for two years.

The Thrasher Research Fund is inviting concept papers for its Early Career Awards Grants program. Through the program, the fund will award small grants of up to $25,000 to help early-career researchers gain a foothold in the area of pediatric research. While the program will consider a variety of research topics important to children's health, priority will be given to applicants who show great potential to impact their field of children's health through medical research. Both an applicant's aptitude and inclination toward research will be considered. Concept papers must be received no later than March 12, 2019.
