Senior Research Awards
Objective: To provide established researchers with funds to data to become competitive for funds from other sources such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Applicant Eligibility: Applicant must hold an MD and/or PhD (or equivalent degree) and must be employed by an institution (public non-profit, private non-profit, or government) that is engaged in health care and/or health-related research. He/she must have attained independence from his/her mentor. Eligibility is not restricted by citizenship or geography.
Proposal Eligibility: Proposal must be relevant to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Crohn's disease and/or ulcerative colitis. Only one application is allowed per applicant per submission date. Simultaneous submission of a Senior Research Award and a Training Award is not permitted.
Senior Research Awards Costs: Total maximum award per year: $115,830 (subject to annual progress report approval).
Funding: Direct Costs: up to $105,300 per year; Indirect Costs: 10% of direct costs, or up to $10,530; Duration of Award: One to Three Years

ADDF-Harrington Scholar Program
Objective: To provide funding and committed project support by a team of pharmaceutical industry experts through a collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) and Harrington Discovery Institute. This is a special funding opportunity separate from ADDF’s Core Funding Programs.
Applicant Eligibility: Investigators at accredited medical centers, research institutions, and universities in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom only are eligible to apply. Lead investigator must have an MD, a PhD, or equivalent. Proposals should show potential to advance discovery into meaningful therapeutics to treat, prevent, or slow Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Team should possess intellectual property (IP) or have potential for novel IP that has not yet been licensed to a for-profit entity. Researchers working on drug development programs that are relevant to but not presently focused on the Alzheimer’s field are encouraged to apply.
Funding: Up to $600,000 over 2 years with dedicated support from a team of industry veterans with capabilities that include medicinal chemistry, pharmacology & toxicology, and business development. The expertise of each team is tailored to the specific needs of the project during the two-year award period.

Elsa U. Pardee Foundation Cancer Research Grants
Objective: Support research in the field of cancer. It is anticipated that this early stage funding by the Foundation may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding.
Applicant Eligibility: Post-docs who are on the tenure track and have a tenured mentor are eligible. Priority is given to researchers at non-profit institutions in the United States who are new to the field of cancer research, or to established research investigators examining new approaches to cancer cure.
Funding: There are no limits set on the amount that can be requested. It must be reasonably supported by the scope of the project outlined in the application. Indirect costs cannot exceed 5% of the total amount requested. Funding is for one year.

Systems for Action: Systems and Services Research to Build a Culture of Health
Objective: Systems for Action (S4A) is a signature research program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) that builds a Culture of Health by rigorously testing new ways of connecting the nation’s fragmented medical, social, and public health systems. RWJF invests in systems that are designed to improve social and economic conditions—such as housing, transportation, education, income, and employment assistance; child and family supports; and legal and criminal justice services—but the financial benefits of these often flow elsewhere, in reduced costs for medical care from diseases and injuries prevented.
Applicant Eligibility: Applicants must be either public entities or nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are not private foundations or nonfunctionally integrated Type III supporting organizations. Applicant organizations must be based in the United States or its territories. Awards will be made to organizations, not to individuals. Multi-organizational consortia are encouraged to apply.
Funding: Total award amount can be up to $500,000 and up to four awards will be awarded by RWJF. The grant duration is 36 months,

2021 Human Cognitive and Behavioral Science
Objective: Grants awarded through this RFA are intended to produce foundational knowledge about the neurobehavioral differences associated with ASD, which will directly inform the development or refinement of tools needed for translational efforts, such as biomarkers and outcome measures. Special emphasis is placed on objective, quantitative measures that may be used in conjunction with standardized clinical measures and genomic information to better triangulate phenotypic and neurobiological variability within and across individuals with ASD.
Applicant Eligibility: All applicants and key collaborators must hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree and have a faculty position. PIs who do not have substantial ASD clinical expertise should include a close collaborator with such expertise on their grant application (e.g., multi-PI application).
Funding: Total budget is $750,000 or less, inclusive of 20 percent indirect costs, over a period of up to three (3) years.

Research Awards
Objective: FWW Research Awards target small, short-term studies with promise for improving medical care in leading women’s health concerns including cardiovascular disease, female cancers, the role of hormones in disease and stage-of-life health issues like pregnancy and menopause and diseases disproportionately affecting women. The foundation also funds studies on sex differences where gender or sex has been under examined.
Priorities: Cardiovascular disease, leading female cancers, hormones’ role in disease and stage-of-life health concerns, diseases or health concerns that disproportionately affect women and Exploration of gender differences related to the aforementioned topics
Applicant Eligibility: Lead investigator must be an MD and/or PhD with faculty appointment at an accredited U.S. academic institution or similar nonprofit medical research institution that receives NIH and/or public foundation grants.
Funding: One-time, non-recurring grants of $25,000

Research Grants
Objective: Research grants are available to established scientists of all ages working at accredited institutions in the United States. Applications will be judged on the scientific merit and the innovative aspects of the proposal as well as on the competence of the applicant. The Foundation emphasizes the support of young scientists at the beginning of their careers and productive senior scientists who wish to move into new fields of interest.
Applicant Eligibility: Applicants must be an Assistant Professor (or higher) with PI status and be considered an “independent investigator” with their own dedicated lab space or with lab space independent of another investigator.
Funding: Research grants normally range from $30,000 to $75,000 per year and can be renewed for a second year on a competitive basis. Research grants will not be awarded to investigators who have already received, or expect to receive, substantial support from other sources, even if it is for an unrelated purpose.

Social Science Research
Objective: RSF will accept letters of inquiry (LOIs) under these core programs and special initiatives: Behavioral Economics; Decision Making & Human Behavior in Context; Future of Work; Social, Political and Economic Inequality. LOIs must include specific information about the proposed data and research design. If you are unsure about the foundation's expectations, we strongly recommend that you review the grant writing guidelines on the website and also view an instructional webinar.
Applicant Eligibility: All applicants (both PIs and Co-PIs) must have a doctorate. All nationalities are eligible to apply and applicants do not have to reside in the U.S., but the focus of the proposed research project must be on the U.S. as per the RSF mission.
Funding:
Trustee Grants are generally capped at $175,000, including 15% indirect costs.
Presidential Grants are capped at $35,000 (no indirect costs).
PIs may request up to $50,000 (no indirect costs) when the proposed research project has special needs for gathering data (e.g.: qualitative research) or gaining access to restricted-use data. Budget amounts are over a two-year period.

Visiting Scholars Program
Objective: The Visiting Scholars Program provides a unique opportunity for select scholars in the social, economic, political and behavioral sciences to pursue their research and writing while in residence at the foundation in New York City. The fellowship period is September 1st through June 30th of the following year.
Applicant Eligibility: Visiting Scholars are at least several years beyond the Ph.D. and once selected, typically work on projects related to the foundation’s core programs and special initiatives. Scholars are provided with an office at the foundation, computers, library access, and supplemental salary support. Scholars from outside NYC are provided with a partially-subsidized apartment near RSF.
Funding: Scholars are provided with an office at RSF, computer and library facilities, and salary support of up to 50 percent of their academic year salary when unavailable from research grants or other sources (up to a maximum of $125,000 for the full term, or $62,500 for half of the full term).

Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Parkinson’s Disease Research
Objective: The Michael J. Fox Foundation seeks applications with the potential to increase knowledge about Parkinson’s disease in populations that have been excluded from or underrepresented* in research. Though no definitive evidence exists that the incidence, morbidity, or mortality of Parkinson’s disease (PD) varies between socioeconomic and ethnic groups, data on traditionally underrepresented groups is either sparse or non-existent.
This request for applications (RFA) to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in Parkinson’s research is open to proposals that will increase inclusivity and broaden our understanding of PD. Such projects will help accelerate the discovery of strategies for reducing risk and developing treatments for all people.
*Underrepresented populations include, but are not limited to Black, Latino, Asian, Native American, LGBTQ+, those in lower socioeconomic groups and individuals living in underserved geographies (rural and urban).
Applicant Eligibility: Researchers or clinicians in U.S. and non-U.S. public and private non-profit entities, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, units of state and local governments and eligible agencies of the federal government. Post-doctoral fellows as co-investigators with the designation of an administrative primary investigator who directs the laboratory in which the fellow will conduct research. These projects can be funded up to $200,000.
Funding: Projects will be funded from $50,000 up to $400,000 for 18 to 36 months.

WM Keck Foundation Research Program
Objective: The Research Program seeks to benefit humanity by supporting projects in two specific areas (1) medical research and (2) science and engineering, that are novel and distinctive in their approach, question the prevailing paradigm or have the potential to break open new territory in their field.
The Foundation strives to fund endeavors that are distinctive and novel in their approach. It encourages projects that are high-risk with the potential for transformative impact. "High-risk" comprises a number of factors, including questions that push the edge of the field, present unconventional approaches to intractable problems, or challenge the prevailing paradigm. In all our programs, "transformative" may mean creation of a new field of research, development of new instrumentation enabling observations not previously possible, or discovery of knowledge that challenges prevailing perspectives.
Applicant Eligibility: Research universities, medical colleges and major private independent scientific and medical research institutes are eligible to apply to the Research Program. Potential applicants are encouraged to submit their ideas for grants early in the form of single-page concept papers to allow time to schedule a possible consultation.
Funding: Research grants range from $500,000 to $5 million and are typically $2 million or less. A maximum of 10% of the requested amount can be paid to a collaborator outside the United States. Overhead expenses and F&A are not eligible for funding.

Ancestry Networks for the Human Cell Atlas
Objective: The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invites applications for three-year collaborative projects for the generation of healthy, single-cell reference data from ancestrally diverse tissue samples for the Human Cell Atlas (HCA). To be truly useful as a reference atlas for the human body, the HCA must be broadly representative of race, ethnicity, ancestry, and other determinants of health. This new RFA will support collaborative networks of researchers for three-year projects. It is intended to bring together teams of experts to 1) ethically and appropriately generate data derived from tissues from people whose ancestral groups are historically understudied and thereby expand the ancestral diversity of single-cell data that is available via the HCA, and 2) utilize best practices and build up systems to enable long-term engagement of potential participants and donors from diverse communities to contribute to the current and future drafts of the HCA.
Applicant Eligibility: Teams should consist of at least three and up to 10 principal investigators, including at least one computational biologist or data scientist and one expert in single-cell biology. Community-based participatory researchers should be involved in the collaboration to ensure that the research is attuned to the needs of and connected with the participating donor communities. Principal Investigators may only serve as Coordinating Principal Investigator on one application. At least one Principal Investigator of the team must be a computational biologist or data scientist.
Funding: Because varying projects require different resourcing levels, a budget limit has not been set on a per project basis. Proposed budgets should reflect the project scope and will be evaluated for appropriateness relative to the scope of work proposed. CZI will work closely with successful applicants to arrive at a mutually acceptable budget after review and incorporating reviewer feedback. Indirect costs cannot exceed 15% of direct costs.
