Brief synopsis of the JSMEF Bridging Grant Program and Data Acquisition Grant Program are listed below:
The Bridging Grant Program (https://www.utmb.edu/research/sponsored-programs/find-funding/sealy-bridging-funds) aims to assist UTMB Investigators with unfunded federal grant applications (with a project period greater than two years) that have received favorable reviews and scores, and are eligible for resubmission. The original application must have received a priority score and/or been ranked in the top 50% for the agency.
The Bridging Grant Program will bridge these proposals by providing a limited amount of funding for one year. The goal of the Sealy bridge funding is to allow the investigator to carry out the work necessary for submission of a fundable grant application. If the revised application has already been resubmitted to the funding agency, it would not be eligible for the bridging program.
The Sealy Bridging Grant Program is open to assistant professors, associate professors and professors from all schools and departments at UTMB. Applications for both basic and clinical research are encouraged. Applications from junior or new faculty are also encouraged.
The Bridging Grant Program will provide funding of up to $25,000 for the R21 or equivalent grants and up to $50,000 for the R01 or equivalent grants.
The Data Acquisition Grant Program (https://www.utmb.edu/research/sponsored-programs/find-funding/data-acquisition-grant) is to stimulate the development of new research initiatives through the support of projects that have a very high probability of attracting new biomedical research grants to UTMB.
JSMEF Data Acquisition Grants are open to all eligible UTMB Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors from all schools at UTMB.
Data Acquisition Grants will not supplement or replace externally funded research projects. It is incumbent upon the principal investigator (PI) to address the relationship between the proposed research and ongoing projects, and to convince the reviewers that successful completion of the proposed experiments will have a reasonable likelihood of attracting new grant support. Reviewers will critically evaluate proposals for scientific merit and the potential to attract new funding.
A condition of the award is the submission of a related extramural grant within 6 months of the end of the award. An abstract of a submitted grant can be used as this final report.
The John Sealy Memorial Endowment Fund for Biomedical Research was established in 1984 by the Sealy & Smith Foundation to promote biomedical research at UTMB.
Research Pilot Grants will not be offered this cycle.
