DEADLINE:  October 9, 2020

More information available at the Pepper Center website: https://www.utmb.edu/scoa/research/supported-research-programs/pepper-center

The UTMB Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC) has been continuously funded since 2000. The Center nurtures a multidisciplinary translational research culture to fulfill our mission, which is to improve physical function and independence in older adults. Central to this mission is the career development and training of the next generation of leaders in geriatric and aging related research.

The Research Education Component (REC) engages early stage investigators in a mentored research experience to support development of externally funded research. Scholars will work with a primary mentor and members of a research team to create and execute an individual development plan that includes research projects, training activities, funding initiatives, and publications. Scholars are expected to devote a maximum of 50% effort to career development activities related to research in aging and may be receiving salary support from other federal sources. The average length of RL5 support is three years or until other independent funding is obtained.

The RL5 Scholars Program is funded by the NIH's National Institute on Aging (Grant #P30-AG024832) and is an integral component of the UTMB Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center.
